Development

For over 50 years, Buckeye Hills Regional Council has assisted our region’s communities in securing the financial resources that will effectively translate their ideas into action.

Our Community Development team works with regional, state, and federal partners to help secure investments in projects that have a positive impact on the region’s quality of life by creating and retaining jobs, providing access to educational opportunities, increasing access to water and sanitary sewer service, maintaining and improving transportation infrastructure, and preserving and investing in cultural heritage, and natural assets. We work alongside communities to build the capacity of local leaders, organizations, and communities to address local challenges while strengthening the region’s economic prosperity.

Investing In Our Communities

Once a community has solidified its plans for a project, the Community Development team works alongside them to research and identify funding sources. From grant writing to project administration, Buckeye Hills works alongside stakeholders every step of the way to navigate program requirements and overcome barriers along the way. Using our designations with state and federal organizations, Buckeye Hills is able to streamline the process to ensure ease of applying for funding.

As an Economic Development District (EDD) designated by the U.S. Economic Development Administration, Buckeye Hills helps communities access funding for projects that create jobs and leverage private investment in Southeast Ohio. As a Local Development District (LDD) designated by the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC), Buckeye Hills facilitates community-based, regionally-driven economic development. In our role as an LDD, Buckeye Hills is a local partner in the ARC’s Federal-State-Local partnership, providing our member counties and municipalities with administrative, professional, and technical assistance.

As a Regional Transportation Planning Organization (RTPO) designated by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), Buckeye Hills works with local leaders and communities to identify transportation needs, conduct local transportation planning, and support ODOT’s statewide transportation planning process. In our role as an RTPO, Buckeye Hills helps local leaders and residents have greater input in transportation decisions that affect the region.

Buckeye Hills Regional Council serves as the administrative agent for the Region 12 Committee of the OneOhio Recovery Foundation, which oversees the use of Ohio’s opioid lawsuit settlement funds. The OneOhio Recovery Foundation focuses on prevention, treatment, and recovery with the goal of improving the rate of recovery for those suffering from addiction.

As the lead agency for the Southeast Ohio Regional Digital Inclusion Alliance, designated by BroadbandOhio, Buckeye Hills serves as a regional forum to help foster a better understanding of the connectivity-based challenges community leaders and Ohioans are facing at the local level. This feedback is used to support activities to improve the availability and affordability of high-speed internet, online accessibility of public resources and services, digital literacy, online privacy, and technical support.
