SUMMARY:Brownfields Project Intake Meeting (Athens)
DESCRIPTION:Buckeye Hills Regional Council\, in partnership with engineering and architecture firm Burgess and Niple\, will provide two opportunities for brownfields project sponsors and property owners to get expert guidance on their projects. \nThe first session will occur on April 4\, 2:00 – 3:30 p.m.\, at the Ohio University Innovation Center\, 340 West State Street in Athens. The second session will occur on April 11\, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.\, at Buckeye Hills Regional Council\, located at 1400 Pike Street in Marietta. \nThose unable to attend in person can attend the April 4 session online. Virtual meeting details are available by contacting Kate Dunn\, Senior Planner prior to the meeting. \nBrownfield projects can range from remediating buildings with asbestos or lead contamination to assessing and cleaning up abandoned properties that once managed hazardous chemicals. Former brownfield properties throughout Ohio and across the country have been redeveloped for productive uses such as grocery stores\, affordable housing\, health centers\, cultural facilities\, parks\, and more. \nIn 2022\, The U.S. EPA awarded Buckeye Hills Regional Council $500\,000 to inventory and prioritize brownfield sites in Southeast Ohio and conduct environmental site assessments and cleanup plans. \nThese meetings will allow anyone with a brownfields project to see if they are eligible to receive assistance through this program and get answers to questions regarding cleaning up such properties.
