Southeast Ohio’s senior centers make vital connections that help all older adults age well. These organizations offer a vibrant, action-packed combination of healthy activities, meal options, and social engagement.
During the pandemic, local senior centers quickly pivoted to provide vaccine assistance, online classes, and grab-and-go meals. September is National Senior Center Month, and Buckeye Hills Regional Council is celebrating the senior centers in our region, recognizing these shared experiences, and thanking them for the many ways they improve the quality of life of older adults. From financial planning workshops to cooking classes and dances to technology classes, southeast Ohio senior centers are a community hub where seniors find friendship, support, and purpose.
“Ohio’s older adults are finding opportunity and strength in our senior centers,” said Jennifer Westfall, Aging and Disability Director of Buckeye Hills Regional Council. “The region’s aging population is seeking opportunities to continue connecting with each other and with their communities. Our local senior centers support their members and communities with engaging programs, while also providing practical tools and resources to help them stay healthy, independent and involved. They are an incredibly valuable asset to our area and proved vital during the pandemic. Buckeye Hills’ partnership with the senior centers was crucial in supporting the region’s older adults throughout this pandemic.”
Senior Center Month emphasizes the tremendous opportunity that senior centers deliver in their communities, including programming that empowers older adults to age well and strengthens their mind, body, and spirit.
