How We Work

Buckeye Hills serves as a forum through which local communities work cooperatively to improve our region. This spirit of coordination and service was fundamental to our establishment in 1968 and continues to guide how we work today. Our organization comprises four divisions: Aging & Health, Home Care, Community Development, and Planning.

Aging & Health

Buckeye Hills is the lead agency for the Southeast Ohio Aging & Disability Resource Network. One call opens doors to a variety of resources and long-term services that support residents throughout Southeast Ohio. Our staff are a trusted source of information, and they provide access to a full range of available services, programs, and options to help individuals, regardless of age or disability, remain at home and in their community.

Home Care

Buckeye Hills accepts referrals from families, friends, physicians, ministers, and community organizations to locate individuals who may benefit from the PASSPORT program. The PASSPORT Waiver Program is Ohio’s alternative to nursing home care. It helps disabled older adults remain safe and independent at home. PASSPORT helps these individuals remain in their homes longer and can relieve some of the stress on families and caregivers.

Buckeye Hills provides a free consultation with a care professional to assist with identifying the services an individual may qualify for and what services are available to meet their daily needs.

Community Development

Buckeye Hills helps communities solve problems by identifying urgent needs and securing financial resources to improve infrastructure and the overall quality of life for residents.

Buckeye Hills helps secure investments in projects that have a positive impact on local residents and businesses by creating and retaining jobs, providing access to education or training, increasing access to water and sanitary sewer services, and maintaining and upgrading transportation infrastructure.

Planning

Buckeye Hills engages local elected officials, community leaders, and citizens to align our collective efforts as we work together to build a strong future for Southeast Ohio. Regional development requires multi-sector collaboration and consensus-building with a wide variety of groups and stakeholders.

Through our designations as an Economic Development District, an Area Agency on Aging, and a Regional Transportation Planning Organization, we are responsible for developing long-term, strategic plans for the growth and well-being of our eight-county region.

Affiliates

Buckeye Hills Regional Council has two 501(c)3 affiliates: the Buckeye Hills Foundation and Buckeye Hills Support Services.

The Buckeye Hills Foundation promotes community and economic development through research, education, charity, and training conducted in support of the overall mission of Buckeye Hills Regional Council. The Foundation convenes leaders, officials, practitioners, and stakeholders across sectors to support Buckeye Hills’ mission to improve the quality of life for residents of Southeast Ohio. The Buckeye Hills Foundation has four primary goals:

  • To provide opportunities for research, education, and training to leaders, officials, practitioners, and stakeholders in southeast Ohio, focused on the mission of improving the quality of life for residents in the eight-county Buckeye Hills region.
  • To address community needs through small, responsive grants of less than $5,000 toward initiatives, programs, and projects that provide community and economic development outcomes.
  • To serve as a medium for the growth of arts, culture, outdoor recreation, placemaking, and tourism in southeast Ohio.
  • To bolster the capacity of local elected officials to provide transformational leadership and vision in their respective communities and Southeast Ohio as a whole.
