Our Impact on the Buckeye Hills Region

For over 50 years, we’ve worked hand-in-hand with community leaders, funding partners, and legislators, to assist communities throughout Southeast Ohio in securing resources and in developing a range of programs and services to that have a positive impact on the region’s residents and quality of life.

In 2024, we facilitated investments of more than $116.8 million

2024 Investments in Southeast Ohio

Since our inception in 1968, Buckeye Hills has delivered $610 million in services to the region through our Aging & Health and Home Care divisions. Through our Community Development and Planning divisions, Buckeye Hills has helped bring more than $1 billion to our region’s communities. In 2024:

  • 60 roads were resurfaced or otherwise improved through the Ohio Public Works Commission.
  • 8 communities utilized the Surface Transportation Block Grant program, receiving $1.7 million in support of 8 projects totaling $10.8 million that helped improve safety, accessibility, and active
    transportation.
  • 3,418 older adults in Southeast Ohio received $50 in vouchers to purchase fresh local produce from more than 40 local farmers and markets through the Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program.
  • 38 homes were repaired or received accessibility improvements through the Housing Assistance Grant Program and PASSPORT Medicaid Waiver Program
  • 432 acres of green space and stream corridors were protected and enhanced through $1.6 million in funding from the Clean Ohio Green Space Conservation Program
  • 4,261 calls were answered by our Information & Assistance team, who helped individuals with questions on aging, Medicare enrollment, long-term care options, and more.

Local Development District Annual ROI Reports

Designated by the Appalachian Regional Commission Local Development Districts (LDDs) are the multi-county planning organizations facilitating community-based, regionally driven, economic development. There are 74 LDDs that serve the 13 states of the Appalachian Region. In Ohio, four LDDs serve the state’s 32 Appalachian counties. The LDDs serve as multi-jurisdictional community and economic development grassroots organizations that provide administrative, professional, and technical assistance to local governments and citizens.

In Appalachian Ohio, the four LDDs are Buckeye Hills Regional Council, Eastgate Regional Council of Governments, Ohio Mid-Eastern Governments Association, and Ohio Valley Regional Development Commission.
