Buckeye Hills to Host Brownfields Project Intake Meetings April 4 & April 11

March 22, 2023

Buckeye Hills Regional Council, in partnership with engineering and architecture firm Burgess and Niple, will provide two opportunities for brownfields project sponsors and property owners to get expert guidance on their projects.

The first session will occur on April 4, 2:00 – 3:30 p.m., at the Ohio University Innovation Center, 340 West State Street in Athens. The second session will occur on April 11, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., at Buckeye Hills Regional Council, located at 1400 Pike Street in Marietta.

Those unable to attend in person can attend the April 4 session online. Virtual meeting details are available by contacting Kate Dunn, Senior Planner, at kdunn@buckeyehills.org prior to the meeting.

Brownfield projects can range from remediating buildings with asbestos or lead contamination to assessing and cleaning up abandoned properties that once managed hazardous chemicals. Former brownfield properties throughout Ohio and across the country have been redeveloped for productive uses such as grocery stores, affordable housing, health centers, cultural facilities, parks, and more.

In 2022, The U.S. EPA awarded Buckeye Hills Regional Council $500,000 to inventory and prioritize brownfield sites in Southeast Ohio and conduct environmental site assessments and cleanup plans.

These meetings will allow anyone with a brownfields project to see if they are eligible to receive assistance through this program and get answers to questions regarding cleaning up such properties. These meetings are open to the public.

Questions regarding these meetings should be directed to Kate Dunn, Senior Planner.
