FCC Releases National Broadband Map

November 22, 2022

The long-awaited FCC National Broadband Map was officially published on November 18. The map is based completely on data provided by internet service providers. However, this is the first time that the public and local governments can submit challenges both on service availability and serviceable addresses. These maps will be used to determine the allocation of the historic funding for broadband provided by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. With that in mind, it is incredibly important that these maps are as accurate as possible. Buckeye Hills Regional Council will be doing more outreach as the process continues. In the meantime, we highly encourage individuals, businesses, and local governments to look over the maps and search for your address. If there are any inaccuracies you can submit those from within the map. Alternatively, you can notify BHRC Broadband Coordinator Ryan Collins, and we can submit a challenge on your behalf. Of note, when viewing the map please ensure that you go to the settings (the gear icon) and turn on the “All Wired and Licensed Fixed Wireless” layer to ensure the most accurate picture.

Check the map for your location:

  1. Search your address at BroadbandMap.fcc.gov
  2. Click on the gear symbol, on the right side of the screen, and ensure ‘All Wired and Licensed Fixed Wireless’ is selected under ‘Technology’
  3. Is the location information correct? If not, click ‘Location Challenge’
  4. Are the Internet services listed for your address available? If not, click ‘Availability Challenge’
