How You Can Help: Flood Relief for Southeast Ohio Communities

Southeast Ohio has been significantly impacted by storms and heavy rain that moved through the region on April 2, 2024. As communities respond and recover from these impacts, we’re sharing updates and links to organizations assisting local residents and businesses.

Meigs County

The Pomeroy Merchants Association is accepting donations for cleaning supplies. Any and all cleaning products can be dropped off at the Ewing Schwarzel Family Center on Second Avenue in Pomeroy. Monetary donations can be made directly to Farmers Bank to the “Pomeroy Merchants Association” bank account.

Imagine Pomeroy is monitoring Ohio River flood projections and preparing to coordinate volunteers as needed. You can monitor the Imagine Pomeroy Facebook page for updates. Meigs County Chamber & Tourism is also posting updates on its Facebook page.

Washington County

Donations of cleaning supplies are being accepted Saturday April 6, from 8:30am-12:00pm at Settlers Bank on 115 Third Street in Marietta. Rubber gloves, bleach and other disinfectants, paper towels, and other cleaning supplies needed.

UHAUL in Marietta is offering on-month of free storage to any business affected by the flood waters. Contact them at 502 Pike Street, Marietta OH or by calling 740-374-5763.

Many business owners in Marietta are cleaning out basements and moving inventory to higher ground. You can contact Marietta Main Street at info@mariettamainstreet.org to volunteer your time and support these efforts.

If you are a local business or nonprofit organization in need of student volunteer assistance, please get in touch with Dr. Alex Perry (akp004@marietta.edu), Jason Nulton (jdn001@marietta.edu) or Dr. Amy Elliott (ace003@marietta.edu) in the McDonough Leadership Program to get connected.

Monetary contributions to help individuals affected by flooding in the Marietta area may be made to the Marietta Community Foundation’s Hardship Fund. Donations may also be mailed to Marietta Community Foundation, 100 Putnam Street, Marietta, OH 45750.
