Many municipalities in the Buckeye Hills region sit on the banks or in the flood plains of the Hocking River, Muskingum River, Ohio River, or the tributaries to these rivers. To aid in mitigation efforts, Buckeye Hills Regional Council has retained a firm to assess buildings in downtown areas to ensure they can withstand potential natural disasters. The firm will provide assessments of the condition and state of downtown buildings and estimates of the costs to update or rehabilitate them. The outcomes of these assessments will directly affect the region’s future development.
Buckeye Hills Regional Council invites local leaders and building owners to submit buildings located in these watersheds for architectural and structural assessments. Properties should be submitted for consideration by January 17, 2024.
