Buckeye Hills Regional Council will host Aging in Appalachia, a one-day summit, on Thursday, November 13, 2025 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at its conference center on 1400 Pike Street, Marietta Ohio. The event will convene community leaders, home- and community-based service providers, caregivers, and practitioners for in-depth discussions on the region’s aging landscape and practical solutions already underway in Southeast Ohio.
The program comprises four sessions with built-in time for questions and discussions. BHRC’s Aging and Health Director Jennifer Westfall and Home Care Director Dawn Weber will outline a holistic approach to aging in our communities. Amy Lipka, Age-Friendly Athens Coordinator, Kerri Shaw, Community Health Worker Program Lead for the OHIO Alliance for Population Health, and Athens County Commissioner Chris Chmiel will discuss lessons learned about aging in place from an overseas trip to Slovenia. BHRC Mobility Mangers Julia Hinzman and Kelly Isaly as well as HAPCAP Mobility Coordinator Ben Ziff will address how mobility managers support daily living and travel in rural areas. The summit will conclude with long-term care planning essentials presented by Hope Spangler of Jarvis Law Office.
The summit reflects BHRC’s ongoing commitment to connecting older adults, individuals with disabilities, and caregivers to programs and resources while enhancing collaboration among providers and community stakeholders throughout Southeast Ohio.
Buckeye Hills Regional Council acknowledges the generous support of Title Sponsor Careforth. Careforth supports family caregivers to help people remain safely at home through expert coaching, emotional support, and financial assistance.
